According to Shopify’s website, they describe themselves as ” a Canadian multinational e-commerce company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario. It is also the name of its proprietary e-commerce platform for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems.”
Other e-commerce platforms include Woocommerce, Wix, Square, and Squarespace. Each platform has its own pros and cons list, but Bello Couture Boutique ultimately went with Shopify as it fit best with their needs.
Shopify has three pricing plans to set up the online storefront. A basic plan is $29 USD/ month and is best for new e-commerce businesses with occasional in-person sales. A Shopify plan is $79 USD/month and is best for growing businesses selling online or in-store. They also offer an Advanced plan for $299 USD/ month and it is best for scaling businesses that require advanced reporting.
Bello Couture Boutique signed up for the Shopify plan. This plan features an online store, including an e-commerce website and blog, unlimited products, 5 staff accounts with access to Shopify admin and Shopify POS. It has access to multiple sales channels, inventory locations, manual order creation, discount codes, gift cards, and reports. It also features up to 88% discount from shipping companies like DHL Express, UPS, and USPS.
One major benefit to utilizing the Shopify system for online shopping is that it was the platform Bello Couture Boutique was already using for the Point of Sale (POS) in the Peoria Heights store. Shopify online store automatically synchronizes with Shopify POS, and you manage your entire business from one dashboard. Product or inventory updates that you make in your Shopify admin will instantly take effect in Shopify POS. Another major plus to Shopify is that it is Level 1 PCI DSS complaint. This means all of Bello Couture Boutique’s data and customer information is ultra secure.

Another benefit to using Shopify’s platform is it is not only super easy to navigate on the back end, but also from a customer standpoint. As an employee or administrator, adding products, descriptions, photos, and discounts is no problem at all. Shopify gives a completely customizable experience so the customer can shop with ease.
Above is a screenshot of Bello Couture Boutique’s “Tops” section on their Shopify website. As you can see, everything is organized by type of top. This collection was specifically designed for the winter months showcasing sweaters, jackets, and cardigans. Shopify’s back end allows employees to tag each item to a specific category to auto-populate on the website.
